London, UK – Acclaimed author Arundhati Roy has been named the 2024 recipient of the prestigious PEN Pinter Prize, an accolade recognizing writers who confront society with the “unflinching, unswerving” gaze that Harold Pinter, the award’s namesake and Nobel laureate, advocated for in his literature. Established by English PEN in 2009, the award celebrates literary figures who demonstrate a relentless pursuit of truth in their work.

On accepting the award, Roy herself reflected on the responsibility of writers to address pressing global issues in the absence of voices like Pinter’s. “I wish Harold Pinter were here today to chronicle the baffling shifts we’re seeing in the world. Since he isn’t, it’s up to us to try to fill that void,” she said.
