Clovis Man Found Guilty of Trafficking Controlled Substances in Landmark Trial

CLOVIS, New Mexico – David Brown, a 53-year-old resident of Clovis, was recently found guilty of trafficking a controlled substance, a second-degree felony, according to Ninth Judicial District Attorney Quentin Ray. The verdict was delivered by a Curry County jury on March 22, 2024.

In January 2023, officers from the Adult Probation and Parole Office, accompanied by the Clovis Police Department, conducted a routine home visit to Brown’s residence in a local hotel. During the visit, authorities discovered 10 grams of methamphetamines, black tar heroin, Xanax, and fentanyl pills. Brown was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

The trial was presided over by the Honorable Fred Van Soelen, who ordered Brown’s immediate remand following the guilty verdict. Sentencing for the defendant will be scheduled at a later date.

Assistant District Attorney Jon Harris acted as the prosecutor for the state, while Brown was represented by Criminal Defense Attorney Kaitlyn Cochran from the Law Office of the Public Defender.
