Joshua Robles, who was a minor at the time of discovering his involvement, was taken into custody in November 2023 after details emerged of his deep engagement with the ideology of the Islamic State group and his attempts at communication with its members. Law enforcement officials found materials in his bedroom capable of being used to construct explosive devices.
The arrest followed closely after Robles allegedly made a threatening post on an online platform, Element, on November 28, 2023. His message explicitly supported the Islamic State, threatening to target “Zionists” in Las Vegas.
Investigators were alerted to this disturbing post through a timely tip and rapidly connected the online activities to Robles. Their investigation led authorities to his residence, where the subsequent search unearthed components that suggested preparations for potential acts of violence.
According to the police report, Robles admitted to authoring the online threats. He disclosed his involvement in a chat room frequented by sympathizers of the Islamic State for about a year. Despite the severity of the post, Robles claimed his statement was intended as a “troll” aimed to incite fear rather than a real threat.
