Sundance Film Festival Announces Diverse and Accomplished Jury for 2024 Competition

Park City, Utah – The 2024 Sundance Film Festival has announced the members of its Competition Jury, with 16 individuals who participated in past editions of the festival chosen to serve. Additionally, the festival has named the five jurors for the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize. This year’s Sundance Film Festival will take place from January 18 to 28, in person in both Park City and Salt Lake City, with select films also available online from January 25 to 28.

Among the jurors for the U.S. Dramatic Competition are Debra Granik, Adrian Tomine, and Lena Waithe. The U.S. Documentary Competition will be judged by Shane Boris, Nicole Newnham, and Rudy Valdez. The World Cinema Dramatic Competition will have Jennifer Kent, Mira Nair, and Rui Poças as jurors. Mandy Chang, Monica Hellström, and Shaunak Sen will serve as jurors for the World Cinema Documentary Competition. The Short Film Program Competition will be judged by Christina Oh, Danny Pudi, and Charlotte Regan. Lastly, Zal Batmanglij will judge the NEXT competition section.

In addition to the Competition Jury, the Alfred P. Sloan Jury, made up of Dr. Mandë Holford, Dr. Nia Imara, Matt Johnson, Theresa Park, and Courtney Stephens, has chosen Sam and Andy Zuchero’s film “Love Me” as the winner of their science and tech-focused award.

Festival Director Eugene Hernandez expressed his gratitude to the jury members, stating, “The Sundance Film Festival is known for discovering and platforming visionary emerging artists. We cannot do this without our jury, who so thoughtfully help us recognize and amplify the next generation of independent storytellers.”

Kim Yutani, the Director of Programming, acknowledged the jurors’ previous involvement with the festival, expressing excitement to welcome them back and see which films resonate with them.

The winners of the feature awards will be announced at a ceremony on January 26, while the short film jury winners will be revealed at the Shorts Awards & Party on January 23. Along with award presentations, members of the Competition Jury will participate in various celebratory programming, including talks, panels, trivia nights, and a party for artist alumni.
