Vinland Saga Season 2 Secures Top Spot as Anime of the Year in Public Vote

TOKYO (AP) — The public has spoken, and the second season of “Vinland Saga” has been voted as Anime of the Year in the 2023 edition of the /r/anime community’s annual anime awards. The winners were announced by both the public and a panel of jury members who watched all of the nominated series before voting. “BanG Dream! It’s MyGo!!!!!” was chosen as the anime of the year by the jury, while “Vinland Saga” Season 2 received the public’s vote. Both shows also won the Best Drama award.

The second season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” also emerged as a favorite among the public, winning in four different categories. The winners for each category are chosen by a combination of public vote and jury selection. The jury selected “Encouragement of Climb: Next Summit” as the Anime of the Year for 2022, while the public voted for “Bocchi the Rock!”

The awards are divided into four main categories: “Main,” “Genre,” “Production,” and “Character.” Each category has 8-10 nominations, with half selected by the jury and the other half determined by public vote. The winners for each award are chosen from both the jury’s selection and the public’s vote.

The /r/anime Awards project began in 2016 and now boasts over 8.7 million subscribers. The awards ceremony was live-streamed alongside the Crunchyroll Anime Awards on the same day. This year’s winners were announced on Saturday.

The complete list of winners can be found on the /r/anime Awards 2023 website.
