YouTube Personality and Spouse Arrested: Child Tests Positive for Cocaine Amidst Weapons and Drugs Bust

WILLMAR, Minn. — Nicholas Rekieta, a popular figure on YouTube known as Rekieta Law, and his wife Kayla Rekieta are facing serious legal trouble after being arrested in May on allegations of possessing illegal substances and firearms, coupled with endangering their five children. The situation has taken a darker turn with the revelation that one of their children tested positive for cocaine, authorities confirmed.

The arrest occurred following a search warrant executed on May 23 by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office at the Rekieta family home. During the raid, law enforcement discovered more than 26 grams of cocaine, quantities of ketamine, drug paraphernalia, multiple firearms, and ammunition.

In the aftermath, local health and human services personnel made the immediate decision to remove the children from the household citing not only the presence of drugs and weapons but also the hazardous living conditions, marked by excessive clutter that made navigation difficult.

The discovery took a more somber note when one of the Rekieta children tested positive for a high level of cocaine far surpassing usual thresholds, which raised immediate concerns about the children’s day-to-day environment and safety.

Following these events, the children were placed into foster care. A court proceeding led to the initiation of a CHIPS (Child in Need of Protection or Services) Petition filed the day after the search, leading to an upcoming court date aimed at addressing the custody and welfare of the children.

Court records revealed no viable options were available at the time to safely leave the children in the Rekietas’ care. The case has brought up critical discussions about parental responsibilities and child safety, especially in homes where illegal activities are suspected.

Meanwhile, challenges have continued with efforts to reunite the family. Reports indicate that the Rekietas have been uncooperative with the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services, allegedly revoking necessary releases of information and failing to comply with drug testing requirements.

The couple has also made headlines after Nicholas Rekieta addressed the court documents’ leak on a YouTube session, emphasizing his concern about privacy breaches and hinting at legal actions to manage the fallout.

As the custody debate unfolds, the Rekietas face their impending court appearance for the charges against them, scheduled for August 8, 2024. The outcome of this date could potentially lead to a sentence of up to 25 years if they are convicted.

The unfolding situation highlights the intersection of community standards, parental rights, and child welfare and continues to unfold as the legal processes dictate the next steps for both the Rekieta couple and their children. As the community watches closely, the case serves as a poignant reminder of the severe implications of drug and firearm offenses, especially involving minors. The forthcoming July 23 trial for the custody of the children will undoubtedly reveal more about the potential future for this troubled family.
