SXSW Film & TV Festival Announces Audience Award Winners: ‘Bob Trevino Likes It,’ ‘Monkey Man,’ and ‘Resynator’ Take Home Top Honors

Austin, Texas – The South by Southwest Film & TV Festival has unveiled the winners of its Audience Awards, following the announcement of the Jury and Special Award winners the previous week. “Bob Trevino Likes It” took home the Audience Award for Narrative Feature, while “Monkey Man” won the Audience Award for a Headliner film. The Documentary Feature Audience Award was awarded to “Resynator”.

Among the Jury and Special Award winners was “Bob Trevino Likes It,” which won in the narrative feature competition. Directed and written by Tracie Laymon and starring Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamo, the film impressed the judges. The documentary feature competition’s top prize was awarded to “Grand Theft Hamlet”.

Claudette Godfrey, the VP of Film & TV, remarked on the exceptional week of film and TV premieres at SXSW, expressing excitement to celebrate the festival’s jury and special award winners. The Audience Award voting will conclude on March 16, with winners scheduled to be announced later in the week.

The complete list of winners includes various categories such as Narrative Feature Competition, Documentary Feature Competition, Short Film Competition, Animated Shorts Competition, Music Video Competition, Texas Shorts Competition, Independent TV Pilot Competition, Poster Design Competition, and XR Experience Competition.

In the Narrative Feature Competition, the Special Jury Award for Performance went to Maria Rodríguez Soto for “Mamifera,” while Josephine Stewart-Te Whiu received the Special Jury Award for Filmmaking for “We Were Dangerous”.

The Documentary Feature Competition awarded its top prize to “Grand Theft Hamlet.” The Special Jury Award for Bravery and Empathy was given to Carina Mia Wong and Alex Simmons for “We Can Be Heroes”.

The Short Film Competition granted the Narrative Short Competition’s top prize to “Dissolution” and the Documentary Short Competition’s top honor went to “Remember, Broken Crayons Colour Too”.

The Midnight Shorts Competition crowned “Transylvanie” as its winner, while “Wander to Wonder” took home the top prize in the Animated Shorts Competition.

The Music Video Competition’s winner was “Célen – ‘Mom told you so'”. The Texas Shorts Competition’s winning film was “Jedo’s Dead”.

In the Independent TV Pilot Competition, the top prize went to “Marvin Is Sorry”. The Poster Design Competition’s winning entry was “7 Beats Per Minute”.

Finally, in the XR Experience Competition, the winner was “The Golden Key”, while “Soul Paint” received a Special Jury Award.
