Chicago – A federal jury has reached a verdict in the case involving the 2020 fatal shooting of rapper FBG Duck. The six individuals charged with murder in aid of racketeering and conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering are Charles Liggins, Kenneth Roberson, Tacarlos Offerd, Christopher Thomas, Marcus Smart, and Ralph Turpin. According to prosecutors, FBG Duck, whose real name is Carlton Weekly, was shot dead in August 2020 near the Magnificent Mile. Two others were also injured in the shooting.
The prosecution alleges that Weekly was a member of the STL/EBT, or Tookaville, faction of the Gangster Disciples, which had been engaged in a feud with the O Block faction of the Black Disciples. In January 2022, investigators found evidence that implicated Liggins, including a car used in the shooting. The investigation also revealed a pattern of “diss tracks” posted online by street gang members disrespecting their rivals, which contributed to the violence.
Surveillance footage showed Liggins and others running down a stairwell shortly before the shooting. Investigators traced the path of the vehicles used in the shooting through video surveillance and police cameras. The Fusion and Chrysler stopped in front of the car Weekly’s girlfriend was in, and two people from each vehicle opened fire. Weekly’s girlfriend and another person were wounded, and Weekly himself died from the gunshot wounds.
The jury’s verdict brings a measure of closure to the case and holds the six individuals accountable for their alleged roles in the shooting. The trial and subsequent conviction serve as a reminder of the ongoing issue of gang-related violence in Chicago and the impact it has on the community. The federal charges highlight the coordinated effort to combat organized crime and seek justice for the victims.
The outcome of this trial sets a precedent for future cases involving gang-related violence and sends a message that law enforcement agencies will continue to pursue those responsible for such acts. It is a step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. The investigation and prosecution of this case reflect the commitment of federal authorities to address the root causes of violence and dismantle criminal organizations.
While the verdict brings a sense of closure to the victim’s family, it also serves as a reminder of the pain and loss caused by such violence. The community continues to grapple with the aftermath of the shooting and the broader issue of gun violence. Efforts to prevent further bloodshed and provide support to affected communities are ongoing. This trial serves as a catalyst for conversations about addressing the root causes of violence and implementing effective strategies to promote peace and safety.
