According to Punith Kashi, CEO of FreeLawChat, the platform does not offer legal advice but is designed to provide user-friendly information for basic legal questions. The technology can effectively communicate legal rules and apply them to simple cases, making it useful for answering questions about divorce waiting periods, business structure comparisons, and eviction processes in specific states.

While FreeLawChat is not a substitute for an attorney’s expertise in complex situations, it empowers consumers with information before they connect with a lawyer, resulting in a more positive client experience. Kashi emphasizes that the platform’s user-friendly nature differentiates it from regular chatbots, as it employs AI to provide empathetic and easy-to-understand information.

During the platform’s beta testing phase, over 9,800 people from 29 countries engaged in more than 20,000 chat sessions in four languages. Feedback from users has been overwhelmingly positive, with some expressing gratitude and even declaring their love for the AI technology.

The current legal landscape often leaves potential clients with unanswered inquiries. A survey of 1,000 law firms conducted by legal technology provider Clio revealed that only 40% of email requests received replies, while 39% of phone calls went unanswered. FreeLawChat is still in beta testing but is already considering monetization plans for law firms and other high-volume users, such as law schools and universities.
