Industry Veteran Tom Davis Joins Epiq to Fortify Class Action and Fraud Prevention Capabilities

NEW YORK — Epiq, a leader in legal services and technology, announced on Tuesday the appointment of Tom Davis as Chief of Staff for its Class Action, Remediation, and Mass Tort business unit. The strategic hire aims to bolster the company’s capacity in managing complex cases surrounding class actions and mass torts.

Davis, a seasoned professional in the field, brings a wealth of experience, particularly in operations, compliance, and fraud prevention. His career includes notable past roles such as Vice President of Operations at Garden City Group (GCG) before its acquisition by Epiq in 2018. His responsibilities in his new role will include direct reporting to Nicole Hamann, President of Epiq Class Action.

Cameron Azari, Epiq Senior Vice President, remarked on the hiring, “Tom is a known and respected figure in our industry. His incorporation into our management team significantly fortifies our ongoing commitment to address our client’s needs effectively. His extensive background in compliance and fraud prevention will notably enhance our leadership in these critical areas.”

Davis’s expertise is well-rounded and includes nearly three decades of experience as a licensed attorney and a certified fraud examiner. He has held pivotal roles such as general counsel for technology firms and leadership positions in major corporations like IBM, KPMG, and Grant Thornton. His experience also extends to federal law enforcement, having been an FBI special agent focusing on white-collar crimes.

Speaking on the challenges in the sector, Davis emphasized the importance of robust fraud prevention mechanisms in class actions. “The landscape is rife with bad actors and increasing instances of bot-submitted claims, which pose risks to the fair distribution of settlements to rightful claimants,” he stated. Davis’s role will be crucial in enhancing the integrity of the claims process.

Earlier in the year, Epiq launched EpiqShield™, a suite of anti-fraud technologies designed to secure the claims process against fraudulent activities. This initiative represents Epiq’s proactive approach to safeguarding client interests by integrating advanced real-time technology solutions with pre-payment data analytics tailored to the specifics of each case. These measures help in efficiently identifying, monitoring, and blocking suspicious activities while ensuring the swift processing of legitimate claims.

Epiq continues to set industry standards by combining expert knowledge with innovative technology solutions aimed at handling the increasingly complex demands of legal and corporate clients globally. The company’s focus on efficiency, clarity, and confidence in managing various legal and regulatory matters positions it as a reliable partner for corporate counsel, law firms, and business professionals worldwide.

The addition of Davis to the Epiq team highlights the company’s continuous efforts to evolve and adapt in response to the dynamic challenges of the legal services market, especially in the critical areas of class action and mass tort cases where the stakes and the complexities are exceptionally high.
