Janel Grant’s Legal Team Voices Hopes and Concerns for Netflix’s ‘Mr. McMahon’ Series Ahead of Premiere

Janel Grant’s legal representative discussed the much-anticipated Netflix docuseries “Mr. McMahon” during a media briefing on Thursday, spotlighting its incorporation of allegations made by Grant against Vince McMahon. Grant is currently involved in legal action against McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE, accusing McMahon of sexual assault, abuse, and sex trafficking that she claims occurred earlier in January.

The upcoming series, set to premiere on September 25, delves into the tumultuous career of McMahon, addressing both his rise in the wrestling entertainment industry and the serious accusations against him, including those from Grant. Despite her central role in the unfolding legal drama, Grant herself does not appear in the Netflix project.

During the briefing, Grant’s attorney expressed hope that the series would faithfully represent her client’s troubling experiences. “Janel’s story is crucial for a complete and truthful narrative about WWE and Mr. McMahon,” her lawyer stated, emphasizing the severity of the allegations lodged against McMahon.

The legal team also introduced SKDK, a new public relations firm hired to help manage and promote awareness around Grant’s case. This reflects a strategic move to bolster her public standing and ensure her story receives the attention it warrants.

Answering questions from the press, the lawyer shared that Grant had neither watched the docuseries nor participated in its production, underscoring her right to own her narrative. There was also an acknowledgment of the ongoing federal investigation into the allegations, with hopes expressed for a swift continuation of legal proceedings. In May, proceedings were paused for six months pending further investigation.

The inclusion of Grant’s story in the docuseries could potentially encourage other victims to come forward. However, since a federal investigation is currently active, the team hasn’t engaged with any potential victims still within the WWE organization.

Grant’s attorney refrained from commenting directly on the federal investigation but shared a fervent desire for charges to be formalized soon, allowing the civil case to proceed without further delay.

With “Mr. McMahon” nearing its release, the spotlight on McMahon’s legacy becomes more intense, intertwined with serious allegations that could redefine his public image and the history of WWE itself. The series promises to offer an unflinching look at the empire McMahon built, while also confronting the stark accusations that might lead to its unraveling.

The release of the docuseries could mark a significant moment in entertainment and sports law, setting a precedent on how media and legal narratives around such high-profile figures are shaped and shared with the public.
