Judge to Decide if Suspect in Myrtle Beach Bar Shooting Will Receive Bond

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (AP) – A judge is set to determine whether a suspect accused of fatally shooting a man outside a Myrtle beach area bar will be granted bond. Kvon Lawhorn faces charges for the shooting that occurred in October outside the now-closed Barfield’s Bar and Grill on Frontage Road near Palmetto Pointe Boulevard.

Lawhorn allegedly shot two individuals, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Starquan Washington. During a preliminary hearing in January, the murder charge against Lawhorn was reduced to involuntary manslaughter by a judge, as explained by Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson. This change in charges opened up the possibility for Lawhorn to request a bond hearing.

Yesterday, a hearing took place on Lawhorn’s charges of involuntary manslaughter, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office disclosed that the judge has taken Lawhorn’s motion for a bond hearing under advisement for a period of 48 hours before making a decision.

Law enforcement, as well as the local community, are closely following the judge’s ruling on whether Lawhorn will be granted bond. If bond is approved, it will allow Lawhorn temporary release from custody until his trial. However, if bond is denied, Lawhorn will remain in custody until further notice.

The incident at Barfield’s Bar and Grill has sparked concerns about safety and raised questions about the need for stricter regulations and security measures at similar establishments. Local residents and advocates are calling for increased accountability and measures to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

Lawhorn’s case has drawn significant attention due to the tragic loss of life resulting from the altercation outside the bar. The judge’s ruling on the bond hearing will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the progression of the case and the pursuit of justice for Starquan Washington and his loved ones.

WMBF News is committed to providing updates on the judge’s decision regarding Lawhorn’s bond, ensuring that the community is informed about the ongoing legal proceedings in this case. The determination of whether Lawhorn will be released on bond or remain in custody is eagerly anticipated, as it will have far-reaching implications for the local community and the pursuit of justice in this shooting case.
