AGRA, India — Two additional suspects have been apprehended by the Kasganj police in the abduction and murder case of a woman lawyer, whose body was discovered in a canal earlier this month. The arrests add to the mounting evidence suggesting the motive behind the killing stemmed from a past legal altercation involving the deceased.
The two latest individuals taken into custody, identified as Bobby Kumar and Renu, have been linked to the heinous crime which police say was driven by a bitter dispute relating to courtroom dealings. According to authorities, Kumar, from Etah district, is known to law enforcement and has past charges under the Arms Act and Gangster Act.
Assistant Superintendent Rakesh Bharti of Hathras shared, “The facts provided by these two suspects have led us to further probe the extent of enmity over the court case which triggered this appalling act. We are still trying to determine the specific case that culminated in such violence, while also pursuing the main suspect who remains elusive.”
During their investigation, authorities discovered a suspicious vehicle which led them to Kumar, who was subsequently captured in Kasganj near Anaj Mandi Gate. A motorcycle, traced back to him, was found near the crime scene on the day of the murder.
In a confession, Kumar revealed a staged scenario where he, along with accomplices Sunil aka Fauji, Rajat Solanki, and Renu, coaxed the lawyer under the guise of arranging a marriage. According to Kumar, the group forcibly took her in a car from the Civil Courts in Kasganj to a remote canal where they executed the murder.
Renu, who was arrested shortly after Kumar, corroborated the account and mentioned that Sunil had orchestrated the lawyer’s abduction and murder, implicating both her and Kumar in the grim plot.
With these arrests, all six individuals implicated in the case — five of whom are lawyers — are now in police custody. The suspects face several charges, including abduction, murder, criminal conspiracy, and the concealment of evidence as outlined under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Kasganj police have expressed their commitment to meticulously dissecting the layers of this case, with efforts still ongoing to capture the pivotal suspects directly involved. This crime has shocked the local community, stirring discussions on the safety and vulnerability of legal professionals in the area.
