Owner of $3 Million Yacht Awarded $300,000 After Viral Boat Ramp Mishap

CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. – A jury in Camden County awarded $300,000 in damages to the owner of a 60-foot yacht that was damaged in a mishap at a boat ramp at the Lake of the Ozarks. The incident was captured in a viral video that has garnered over 1.5 million views on YouTube.

The owner, Haulin Fass LLC of Labadie, filed a lawsuit against Iguana Watersports of Boonville following the June 2019 incident. The yacht, a Cruiser Yachts’ Cantius 60 Flybridge valued at $3 million, fell off a flatbed trailer while being transported by a semi-truck, which was in turn being pulled by a tractor. The accident occurred as the truck was navigating a curve after removing the vessel from the water.

The yacht, which was 16 feet wide and 23 feet tall, was being taken out of the lake to undergo a custom decal job before its role as the start boat in the annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. Local business Fass Diesel Fuel Systems, the owner of the yacht, had extensively featured the boat in local news coverage of the popular event.

The jury’s decision was based on the video evidence that had been seen by millions, leaving no dispute about liability. The trial was solely focused on determining the amount of damages. The plaintiff had initially sought damages between $300,000 and $425,000.

The defendant’s attorney did not provide any comments on the matter. Christopher Miller, the plaintiff’s attorney from Amundsen Davis, represented Haulin Fass LLC in the lawsuit.
