Renowned Senior Film Director, M.S. Sathyu, Aims to Make Films at 94 Despite Challenges

Bengaluru, India – At the 15th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes), senior film director M.S. Sathyu was honored with a lifetime achievement award. Despite being 94 years old, Sathyu expressed his unwavering passion for filmmaking and his desire to continue making films. However, he emphasized that someone would need to take a risk and finance his future projects.

The festival also recognized outstanding films across various categories. In the Kannada cinema category, Amar L.’s “Nirvana” received the first best film award, while K. Yashoda Prakash’s “Kandeelu” was awarded as the second best film. Rangaswamy’s “All India Radio” took home the third best film award. Special mentions were given to Shrikant Katagi’s “Kshetrapathi” and Raj B. Shetty’s “Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye,” which received the NETPAC jury award.

Moving to the Indian cinema category, Sujay Dahake’s “Shyamchi Aai” claimed the first best film award and also received the FIPRESCI award. R. Manthira Murthy’s “Ayothi” and Tinu Pappachan’s “Chaver” secured the second and third best film awards, respectively.

In the Asian cinema category, “Inshallah A Boy” from Jordan was awarded the first best film, followed by India’s “Sthal” in second place and Uzbekistan’s “Sunday” in third place. The film “Mithya” received a special jury mention.

The 15th edition of BIFFes attracted approximately 7,000 film enthusiasts. According to N. Vidyashankar, the artistic director of BIFFes, the festival was a resounding success, featuring high-quality content and receiving positive responses from the audience. With nearly 30 Indian premieres and a strong lineup of competition sections, the festival’s international jury greatly enjoyed the event.

The award ceremony showcased not only the achievements of talented filmmakers but also the enduring spirit of individuals like M.S. Sathyu, who continue to pursue their creative passions regardless of age. Despite the challenges that come with aging, Sathyu’s determination serves as an inspiration to all aspiring filmmakers seeking to leave their mark on the cinematic world.
