According to Nasir Al Darmaki, Deputy Manager of the ICCROM Regional Centre in Sharjah, the award magnifies influential projects that pave the way for advancements in heritage preservation. Al Darmaki emphasizes the rigor of the selection process, underpinned by an independent and expert jury panel.

Shireen Sahouri, Programme Officer of Outreach and Development at the ICCROM Regional Centre, praises the jury’s diverse backgrounds and profound expertise, which ensure a fair and impactful judgment process. Their collective evaluations are dedicated to maintaining high standards and recognizing trailblazing projects that set new benchmarks for excellence.
This month, the committee will gather to meticulously review the submissions and shortlist projects, culminating in a decision that will spotlight initiatives demonstrating exceptional innovation and impact in cultural heritage management and preservation.
The winners of the ICCROM-Sharjah Award for Good Practices will be announced in a ceremony scheduled for November 2024 in Sharjah. This occasion will not only celebrate the recipients but also set an example of commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage.
The ICCROM Regional Centre in Sharjah, launched in 2012, is instrumental in broadening understanding and facilitating the adoption of conservation practices throughout the Arab region. This initiative is part of a broader vision supported by Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi to enhance the appreciation and preservation of Arab cultural heritage.
