New York, Sept 18, 2024 — Epiq, a global leader in legal services and technology, has bolstered its team with a new high-profile hire, Tom Davis, who has been appointed as Chief of Staff for the company’s Class Action, Remediation, and Mass Tort business unit. Davis brings extensive experience from previous executive roles in operations and fraud prevention, crucial for navigating the complex landscapes of class action settlements.
Previously associated with Garden City Group (GCG), a former industry frontrunner in class action administration acquired by Epiq in 2018, Davis is well-versed in the intricacies that define the sector. His new role at Epiq will have him report directly to Nicole Hamann, President of the Class Action division, focusing on maintaining the integrity and efficiency of processing these sensitive proceedings.
According to Cameron Azari, Epiq’s Senior Vice President, “Tom’s deep understanding of compliance and fraud prevention is vital for our mission. His expertise will greatly enhance our capacity to manage the increasing sophistication in fraudulent claims and ensure that justice is served through technological and procedural rigor.”
Davis’s robust background includes a nearly 30-year tenure as a licensed attorney and a certified fraud examiner since 2002. His career highlights include being the inaugural general counsel at technology firms such as Coinme and Airbiquity, as well as a former FBI special agent specializing in white-collar crime. Davis also held significant roles at IBM, KPMG, and Grant Thornton, and was a leading figure at Moss Adams, where he spearheaded national litigation and investigative practices.
“In the realm of class action, safeguarding against fraud is paramount,” Davis commented. He pointed out the increasing risks posed by sophisticated fraud schemes, including bot-driven claims aiming to siphon off settlements meant for rightful recipients. “With Epiq’s advanced systems and experienced team, we are setting a new standard in safeguarding client interests and ensuring the valid distribution of funds,” he added.
This year, Epiq introduced EpiqShield™, an innovative anti-fraud program that leverages cutting-edge technology and data analytics to protect against deceptive claims. This solution dynamically integrates real-time monitoring with advanced analytics, tailoring defenses to the unique characteristics of each case. The initiative emphasizes Epiq’s commitment to elevating standards and client confidence through technological advancement and expert oversight.
Specializing in streamlining complex legal processes for corporate counsel, law firms, and businesses globally, Epiq continues to lead in the fields of class action and mass tort, court reporting, eDiscovery, regulatory compliance, and restructuring matters. The company prides itself on delivering clarity and efficiency in tackling large-scale, complicated tasks, reinforcing trust and performance among its prestigious international clientele.
