University of San Diego Marks Two Decades of Innovation with Celebration of The Brink SBDC’s 20th Lean Essential Sprint Cohort

SAN DIEGO — At the University of San Diego, a significant milestone was recently celebrated as The Brink Small Business Development Center marked its 20th cohort of the Lean Essential Sprint (LES) program. This initiative underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and community engagement.

Since its inception, the LES program has been pivotal in refining business models and accelerating the growth of myriad startups within the San Diego region. The program, which runs several weeks, combines practical workshops and expert mentoring to arm fledgling entrepreneurs with the tools necessary for success.

The event noted the achievements of various entrepreneurs, including Jorge Muniz, Jr., a university alumnus and former Navy helicopter pilot who used the skills gained to aid operations in disaster-stricken areas. Muniz exemplifies how the LES program equips veterans and civilian entrepreneurs alike to apply their unique skills to business challenges.

The celebration coincided with several notable university initiatives, emphasizing the school’s holistic approach to education and community service. The university recently kicked off its fall semester, welcoming new and returning students with a series of enriching events and academic commendations.

In academic accolades, the university proudly announced the recipients of the top university awards at the Fall Convocation. These accolades are part of the university’s efforts to promote excellence in teaching, research, and service among its staff and students.

Another highlight includes the recognition of the university as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity, a designation that reflects its leading role in producing skilled professionals ready to tackle evolving cyber threats in various sectors.

The university also celebrated its ranking among the top 50 best colleges in the country by the Wall Street Journal, a testament to its enduring commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

In addition to scholastic achievements, USD also dedicated time to remember the heroes and victims of the September 11 attacks with a poignant memorial service. This was part of a broader series of events dedicated to fostering a community spirit and inclusive campus environment as new students settled in.

Looking ahead, the university remains committed to its tradition of innovation, service, and leadership, preparing its students to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world while contributing positively to their communities.

This dynamic blend of educational excellence, community engagement, and forward-thinking initiatives underscores the University of San Diego’s role as a pivotal educational and cultural hub in Southern California.
