Gerety Awards: Celebrating Women’s Impact on the Advertising Industry and Pioneering Diversity in Creative Leadership

Paris, France – With women driving the advertising industry’s audience, the Gerety Awards, the only advertising awards with an all-female jury, are in a unique position to determine if ads truly resonate with their target audience. In a study conducted by Nielsen, it is projected that by 2028, roughly 75% of all consumer decisions will be made or influenced by women. The Gerety Awards, which started in 2019, aims to showcase creativity through a more progressive lens and provide a unique perspective through which the advertising industry can be viewed.

The Gerety Awards has recently announced its 2024 jury members. They are composed of creative leaders from different parts of the world, all women. Four of the jury members shared their thoughts about their role and the importance of having an all-female jury. Barbara Bian, Senior Creative Director at MRM CHINA, views her participation as a transformative step towards greater diversity and inclusion in the advertising industry. She sees progress in inclusivity globally but recognizes that Asia still has room to grow in implementing these principles.

Neena Gatdula, Partner, Creative Director at Happiness Saigon in Vietnam, sees her role as a Grand Jury member at the Gerety Awards as a privilege and a responsibility to elevate the standards of creative work. She acknowledges the progress made in breaking gender barriers and hopes that the advertising industry continues to push for inclusivity.

Selonica Perumal, CEO at Shift Integrated in Sri Lanka, believes that the Gerety Awards encapsulate the values she holds dear. She highlights the under-representation of women in creative leadership positions within the advertising sector, which limits opportunities for talented female creatives and hinders the industry’s ability to harness diverse perspectives and storytelling voices. As the only Sri Lankan on the jury, Perumal is committed to recognizing and celebrating the unique cultural and creative contributions of her country.

Anna Wong, Chief Growth Officer at Dentsu Creative in Hong Kong, celebrates the Gerety Awards for its progress towards inclusivity within the industry. Wong is excited to celebrate work that resonates with genuine consumer insights without any gender biases or stereotypes. While she acknowledges the progress in recognizing the specific needs of women in marketing, she believes there is still more to be done in understanding the needs and motivations of women in categories such as automobiles, asset management, and properties.

The 2024 Gerety Awards jury is a diverse group, consisting of over 200 members from 47 countries, including a Grand Jury of more than 50 women creative leaders from around the world. The entry deadline is approaching, giving women the opportunity to have their voices heard and lead the industry once again.
