High School Attack Raises Questions About Security System’s Effectiveness

WALTHAM, Mass. – A company based in Waltham, Massachusetts, is facing legal action over alleged violations of Federal Securities Laws. Evolv Technologies, the company responsible for implementing security systems at prominent venues, including Fenway Park and Gillette Stadium, is being sued for failing to detect certain weapons. The lawsuit claims that knives were not detected by Evolv’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, leading to a potential breach in security.

According to the lawsuit, a student managed to bring a large knife into a high school in Utica, New York, despite passing through the Evolv security system. This incident raises concerns about the effectiveness of Evolv’s screening methods. The company claims that its AI system is designed to scan and identify weapons such as guns, knives, and explosives.

Evolv’s security system, known as ‘Evolv Express,’ is widely installed in various high-profile venues, including Fenway Park, Gillette Stadium, and Boch Center Theater. In the case cited in the lawsuit, the student who evaded detection went on to stab another student multiple times at Proctor High School.

Boston 25 News reached out to Evolv Technologies for comment regarding the lawsuit and the safety concerns raised. Alexandra Smith Ozerkis, the VP of Corporate Communications for Evolv Technologies, responded by stating that the company’s policy is not to comment on ongoing legal matters. Ozerkis, however, expressed confidence in the company’s technology and its partnerships with security professionals worldwide.

The Red Sox, whose home games take place at Fenway Park, declined to provide any comments on the pending litigation. As this story continues to develop, more information will be updated as it becomes available.
