New York, NY – Otterbourg P.C. has officially announced the launch of its Mass Tort Bankruptcy Practice Group. This move formalizes a highly successful informal practice group that has operated within Otterbourg for the past few years.
The Mass Tort Bankruptcy Practice Group provides advice and representation to creditors and fiduciaries of creditors, including tort claimants, governmental units, official committees, ad hoc committees, future claimant representatives, and settlement trust trustees and committees. This includes offering support during bankruptcies involving significant mass tort liabilities.
Led by Bankruptcy and Restructuring Partner Sunni P. Beville and Litigation Partner Adam C. Silverstein, the cross-departmental practice group has received invaluable input from Melanie Cyganowski, retired Chief Judge of the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York and Chair of Otterbourg’s Bankruptcy and Restructuring Department.
Otterbourg has already established itself as a leader in the field, having played a crucial role in industry-shaping cases such as In re LTL Management LLC, In re Aearo Technologies LLC, In re Purdue Pharma L.P., and In re Mallinckrodt PLC.

When a bankruptcy is filed, the group’s attorneys can immediately take action on behalf of clients, preparing pleadings, appearing in court, and coordinating with other represented creditor constituents. Throughout the bankruptcy process, the group’s lawyers offer their expertise as counsel to individual creditors, official and ad hoc committees, and representatives serving future claimants. After plan confirmation, they also provide guidance and representation to settlement trust trustees and committees.
