West End Jewelry Business Settles Lawsuit Over ‘Nanny Cam’ Scandal, Case Continues for Former Owner

RICHMOND, Va. – Lustre, a jewelry business located in Richmond, Virginia, and its co-owner, Robin Salzberg, have recently reached a settlement in a long-standing lawsuit. The legal battle was initiated by the Salzberg family’s former nanny, Sara Hatch, who had also worked for Lustre. Hatch had sought $5 million in damages, claiming workplace sexual harassment and emotional distress after discovering a hidden camera in the family’s bathroom.

The lawsuit was first filed in September 2021, with Hatch initially identified as Jane Doe. However, a judge later ruled that her identity should be revealed. Throughout the legal proceedings, Lustre and Salzberg denied the allegations and called for the case’s dismissal. A trial was scheduled for December 2022 but was avoided as settlement discussions progressed.

The terms of the settlement, which was recorded on March 25, have not been disclosed to the public. As a result of the resolution, Lustre and Robin Salzberg have been dismissed from the case with prejudice, meaning they cannot be sued by Hatch again for the same claims.

However, the legal battle is not yet over for Daniel Salzberg, Robin’s ex-husband. Although Daniel is not associated with Lustre as an owner or employee, he faces Hatch’s accusations and additional legal repercussions related to the alleged camera incident. In fact, Daniel is also being sued by the couple’s former housekeeper, Ana Liz Farina, who claims to have found the hidden camera a month before Hatch’s lawsuit.

Farina’s lawsuit solely targets Daniel and seeks $300,000 in damages for alleged violations of privacy codes and emotional distress. This case remains ongoing, pointing to the complex legal entanglements surrounding the camera scandal.

According to the lawsuits, both Hatch and Farina assert that on December 7, 2020, Farina discovered a camera installed beneath a floor vent cover in the Salzbergs’ downstairs bathroom. Hatch’s suit further claims that Daniel promptly removed the camera, initially suggesting an unknown individual was responsible for the device. Hatch filed a police report and later transferred the case to the FBI, but no criminal charges have been filed to date.

Hatch’s allegations against Daniel include intentional infliction of emotional distress, violations of state computer crimes laws, and wrongful termination. Meanwhile, the claims against Lustre and Robin Salzberg involved negligence, worker misclassification, and sexual harassment.

Represented by attorney Mark Nanavati from Sinnott, Nuckols & Logan, Robin expressed satisfaction with the resolution but declined further comment. Lustre received legal representation from Eve Campbell of O’Hagan Meyer, while Daniel is represented by Charles Adams of Zwerdling, Oppleman, Adams & Gayle. Hatch is represented by Henry Willett from the law firm Christian & Barton. However, none of the attorneys were available for comment at the time of writing.

It is worth noting that Robin is the daughter of Ronnie Adolf, who operated Adolf Jewelers locally for over 55 years. Following Adolf’s retirement, Robin and her business partner, Daniel Wright, opened Lustre by Adolf in 2018. The jewelry business is located at 1539 N. Parham Road in the Ridge Shopping Center.

As the legal proceedings unfolded, Robin underwent a divorce from Daniel, emphasizing her efforts to distance herself and her business from the Hatch case. Daniel has firmly denied the allegations made by Hatch and Farina, and both cases are still undergoing legal proceedings. A jury trial for Farina’s case is scheduled for March 2025, according to court records. The status of Daniel’s negotiations concerning the Hatch matter remains unclear.
