BATON ROUGE, La. – The parents of Madison Brooks have filed a lawsuit against the owners of Reggie’s in Tigerland, holding them responsible for their daughter’s death. The lawsuit names Darin Adams and John Landry, the owners of Reggie’s Bar, along with more than 20 other defendants. Among the defendants are four suspects who were arrested after allegedly being in a car with Brooks when she left the bar, the Lyft driver who hit Brooks, and bartenders and managers at Reggie’s who are accused of serving her alcoholic drinks.
On January 15, 2023, 19-year-old Madison Brooks tragically died after being struck by a vehicle upon leaving Reggie’s in Tigerland. According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Brooks was standing in the middle of the street at around 3 a.m. near Pelican Lakes Parkway on Burbank Drive. She was taken to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Officials discovered that Brooks had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.319% and had injuries consistent with rape. Four suspects – Kaivon Washington, Casen Carver, Everett Lee, and Desmond Carter – were subsequently arrested. Carver, Carter, and Washington have been indicted on charges of first-degree rape, while Lee has not yet been charged in court.
In late April, Reggie’s had its alcohol license revoked following an investigation into allegations of selling alcohol to underage partygoers by Baton Rouge Alcohol Beverage Control officials.
The initial filing of the lawsuit took place in September, with an edited petition being filed later in mid-December.
In conclusion, the parents of Madison Brooks are holding the owners of Reggie’s Bar, as well as several other individuals, responsible for their daughter’s tragic death. The case includes allegations of serving alcohol to an underage patron, as well as accusations of rape against four suspects. The loss of Reggie’s alcohol license further underscores the seriousness of the allegations. The lawsuit seeks justice for Madison Brooks and aims to hold all responsible parties accountable for their actions.
